Heavy rains kill 4, injure 28 across Punjab in 24 hours

Published on: October 6, 2025 4:33 PM

Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has killed four people and injured 28 others across Punjab. Rescue 1122 confirmed the casualties and warned of more weather-related risks. Two children died in Faisalabad after their house roof collapsed during the rain. Seven others were injured in the same incident. Other deaths occurred in Nankana Sahib and Kasur due to similar accidents.

In addition to Faisalabad, injuries were reported from Samundri, Jaranwala, Kakarwala, Chak, Manawala, Faqirwali, Allah Abad, Sahiwal, and Lahore. Roof and wall collapses caused most of the injuries, as structures gave way under heavy rainfall. In Lahore alone, two people were hurt in such incidents. Rescue teams responded quickly to each location and carried out emergency relief operations.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an alert about further rainfall in the province. Multan received the highest rainfall at 113mm, followed by Faisalabad at 78mm and Bahawalpur at 44mm. Lahore recorded 40mm of rain while several other districts reported moderate showers. PDMA expects heavy rain to continue across Punjab until October 7.

As a result, PDMA warned that water levels in major rivers could rise dangerously, especially the Chenab by October 7. Levels in Sutlej and Ravi will depend on water flow from India. Water levels in the Indus and Jhelum are also expected to increase. The PDMA placed rescue teams on high alert and urged the public to remain cautious.

In Multan, a rain emergency was declared after repeated downpours flooded several areas. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and avoid power lines. The PDMA also encouraged citizens to take precautions and report emergencies. As rain continues, officials are monitoring the situation closely and preparing for possible evacuations in vulnerable areas.
