Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bokhari has warned that the flood situation in the province is getting worse every day. She said heavy rains continue to cause major damage, especially in southern Punjab. Floodwaters have now reached several areas, making life even harder for affected families. She added that the government is doing its best to respond quickly and help everyone in need.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, she shared alarming figures about the disaster’s impact. So far, 60 people have died due to flooding, and over 4.2 million people have been affected. More than 21 lakh people and over 1.5 million animals have been moved to safer places. Additionally, 4,335 villages and 1.8 million acres of farmland are under water. This loss has also caused a rise in prices of vegetables and pulses.
The minister praised the provincial government’s efforts during this emergency. She said the work done so far is unmatched in Pakistan’s history. She added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will soon announce a large relief package. The government is focusing on both rescue operations and long-term support for affected communities. She stressed that everyone must cooperate during this crisis.
However, Bokhari also expressed concern over public behavior in some areas. She criticized people for treating the flood as entertainment and sharing videos on social media. She warned that the water is dangerous and should not be taken lightly. She asked people to avoid entering flooded areas without permission from local authorities.
Lastly, the minister highlighted a growing health concern in flood-hit regions. Dengue is now spreading in several areas, adding to the crisis. Fumigation is being carried out, but she urged people to follow safety measures. She called on citizens to stay alert and act responsibly. The government is working hard, but public cooperation is key to overcoming the disaster.
