Internet services in Pakistan faced disruption on Saturday after submarine cables suffered cuts near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed the issue in an official statement, warning users about possible slowdowns.
According to PTCL, the cuts reduced bandwidth capacity on two major systems — SMW4 and IMEWE. As a result, users across the country may notice slower browsing, especially during peak hours. The situation raised concerns among businesses, students, and regular internet users.

Meanwhile, the company assured that efforts were underway to restore connectivity. PTCL said its international partners were working on repairs with urgency. At the same time, local teams were arranging alternative bandwidth routes to reduce disruption.
The telecom operator also appealed for patience. “We sincerely appreciate your understanding during this time,” PTCL said. Officials added that such disruptions are temporary but may take hours or even days to fully resolve.
Submarine cables act as the backbone of global internet connectivity. Experts note that countries like Pakistan are especially vulnerable since most web traffic relies heavily on these undersea links. Similar incidents in the past have caused widespread slowdowns across the region.
