Punjab is expected to receive more rain until September 5, raising concerns about worsening flood conditions across the province. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), continuous rainfall could intensify the already precarious flood situation in several districts.
Water levels in major rivers are rising rapidly. At Marala Headworks on the Chenab River, the flow has reached 468,000 cusecs. At Khanki Headworks, it stands at 339,470 cusecs, and at Qadirabad, it is 232,450 cusecs. In Chiniot, the river flow has touched 108,343 cusecs.
Other key locations are also experiencing high water levels. Trimmu Headworks is recording 355,744 cusecs, while Ravi River at Jassar is at 71,010 cusecs. At Ravi Siphon, Shahdara, and Balloki Headworks, the flows are 54,190, 53,630, and 117,655 cusecs respectively. Sidhnai Headworks has a recorded flow of 193,470 cusecs.
The Sutlej River is also seeing a surge in water levels. GS Wala is at 269,501 cusecs, Sulemanki at 122,736 cusecs, Islam Headworks at 95,727 cusecs, and Panjnad Headworks at 182,107 cusecs. These figures point to a high risk of flooding in southern Punjab.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and river-adjacent areas to remain alert. The PDMA is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with local agencies to prepare for any emergency response if flood levels worsen in the coming days.
