Colleges in several flood-affected areas of Lahore Division will remain closed for two days due to rising safety concerns. The closures apply to institutions in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Kasur districts. Heavy rains and overflowing rivers have forced the authorities to take swift action to protect students and staff.
According to a government notification, 16 colleges in flood-hit regions will stay shut on August 29 and 30. The director of colleges ordered this closure as a precautionary step. The directive also instructed that electricity in these institutions be cut off immediately to prevent electrical hazards.
In Lahore, colleges in Shahdara, Chuhng, and Bund Road areas are affected. In Sheikhupura, institutions in Sharaqpur Sharif, Ferozwala, Khanqa Dogran, and Narang Mandi will remain closed. Similarly, Mandi Faizabad and Syedwala colleges in Nankana Sahib and Kanganpur in Kasur are also impacted.
Officials said the move is temporary but necessary due to worsening flood conditions. Rivers have overflowed in various parts of Punjab, and many low-lying areas remain at risk. Schools and colleges in vulnerable zones are being closely monitored for further action.
The education department is also working with local disaster teams to ensure safety. They urged students and staff to remain at home and follow updates from the authorities. Further closures may be announced if the weather worsens in the coming days.
