Reformers Alliance vows to restore integrity at Lahore Gymkhana

Published on: August 6, 2025 2:07 AM

In a significant step toward reclaiming the original spirit and values of the historic Lahore Gymkhana Club, the Reformers Alliance Group held its first formal meeting at the Lahore Grand Marquee on Zafar Ali Road. The gathering was attended by a large number of respected senior and founding members of the club, signaling a growing movement for change within one of the city’s most prestigious institutions.

Prominent attendees included Dr. Junaid, Sardar Kamil Umar, Shahid Iqbal, Iqbal Shafiq, Umar Zaman Khan, Babar Zaman Khan, Kashif Nasir, Wasif Nasir, and Raza Baqir, among many others who share growing concerns over the club’s current state of affairs.

Addressing the gathering, senior member Qamar Khan Bobby delivered a powerful message highlighting widespread dissatisfaction with how the club has been managed in recent years. He condemned what he described as blatant violations of merit, unchecked favoritism, and a pattern of corrupt practices that have eroded the club’s integrity and standards.

“We will no longer stand by silently while a few individuals compromise the values this club was built on,” he said. “The time has come to take a principled stand for transparency, accountability, and professionalism.”

During the meeting, it was unanimously decided that the Alliance would constitute sub-committees in its next session. These bodies will be tasked with preparing practical and actionable proposals to revamp club operations and bring Lahore Gymkhana back in line with international standards of service, governance, and family-oriented hospitality.

The Reformers Alliance also announced that it will soon unveil its official manifesto, offering a clear roadmap for reform ahead of the upcoming club elections. The group pledged that, if entrusted with leadership, it will fully implement the manifesto’s commitments and restore the club’s lost prestige.

A strong message was sent to the membership community and beyond – that the Reformers Alliance is committed not to politics, but to reform, integrity, and a return to the values that made Lahore Gymkhana a proud institution for generations.
