
Pakistan’s Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf was honored with Turkey’s prestigious Legion of Merit during his official visit to Turkiye. The award was presented by Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu, Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces, recognizing Ashraf’s efforts to strengthen defence and maritime cooperation between the two countries. Upon arrival, Admiral Ashraf received a guard of honor and held talks with Turkish naval leadership.
During his visit, Admiral Ashraf met Turkish Minister of National Defence Yasar Guler, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gurak, and Commander of the Turkish Navy Fleet Admiral Kadir Yildiz. The discussions focused on regional maritime security and enhancing bilateral defence collaboration. Both sides agreed on the importance of joint exercises, mutual visits, and training exchanges to boost armed forces interaction.

The naval chief also toured the Istanbul Naval Shipyard and Golcuk Naval Base, gaining insights into submarine design and construction facilities. He observed Turkish naval vessels and visited the National Defence University. As a mark of respect, Admiral Ashraf laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Turkiye’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
The Pakistan Navy spokesperson highlighted that the visit would play a vital role in expanding defence ties between Pakistan and Turkiye. These two nations share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and strategic relations, which the naval chief aimed to further strengthen during this trip. The visit also emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to regional security and cooperation.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf’s award and engagements underscore a growing partnership between the Pakistani and Turkish navies. Both countries continue to seek closer defence ties through high-level dialogues, joint drills, and collaborative projects, ensuring peace and stability in the region.
