Rahul Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent on Donald Trump’s claims about averting a Pakistan-India war. Speaking in New Delhi, the Congress leader said Modi lacks the courage to contradict Trump, fearing it might affect India’s trade ties with the United States.
Trump recently claimed—once again—that he defused a potential war between Pakistan and India during his presidency. This was his 27th such statement, made while seeking credit for peace in South Asia. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Indian government on Trump’s role.
Gandhi said Modi’s silence is not surprising, as he believes the Indian prime minister avoids any confrontation with Trump. “If Modi speaks, Trump will reveal more,” Gandhi claimed, suggesting that Trump might expose confidential details. He called Modi’s inaction a sign of weakness.
He also alleged that Trump is using these claims to push a trade deal with India and apply pressure on Modi. “Just watch,” Gandhi said, “a major trade deal will follow. That’s why Modi won’t deny anything.” He criticized the BJP government for compromising India’s dignity for political convenience.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said both Modi and Foreign Minister Jaishankar have used vague, cautious language. She asked why they don’t clearly say that Trump is lying if his claims are false. Her remarks reflect growing opposition pressure over the government’s foreign policy stance.
