Denmark will launch a three-year energy cooperation program with Pakistan starting January 1, 2026. Backed by the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), the program aims to improve Pakistan’s energy sector by supporting sustainable development, technical capacity, and long-term energy planning.
The Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) program will focus on three main areas: long-term energy planning, integration of renewable sources, and improved energy efficiency in industries. These efforts are expected to help Pakistan transition to a cleaner and more reliable power system.
A high-level Danish delegation, led by DEA’s Global Cooperation Director Carl-Christian Munk-Nielsen, will visit Pakistan from August 18 to 22. The visit will officially launch the program and involve key discussions with Pakistan’s energy authorities.
Recent changes in Pakistan’s energy institutions will play a major role in the program’s success. The unbundling of the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) into three new entities—NGC, ISMO, and EIDMC—will allow better coordination and specialization in energy management.
To ensure effective collaboration, the Danish Embassy has requested meetings with the leadership of these newly formed institutions. These discussions aim to align program goals with local needs and gather useful feedback from stakeholders.
This partnership reflects a growing commitment to clean energy and international cooperation. With support from Denmark, Pakistan is expected to take important steps toward building a more efficient, greener, and modern power sector.
