LAHORE – In a shocking display of disregard for traffic laws, two police officers in Lahore made a mockery of the ongoing crackdown against motorcyclists riding without helmets. The incident took place on Canal Road, where traffic police had set up a checkpoint.
According to reports, traffic wardens stopped the two helmetless cops and asked for identification to issue a challan. Instead of cooperating, the policemen abruptly fled the scene, abandoning their motorcycle at the checkpoint.
Sources revealed that the fleeing officers were posted at the Shadman police station. Notably, their motorcycle’s rear number plate was also found broken, adding another violation to their irresponsible behavior.
Despite the embarrassment caused, traffic police remained composed. Wardens said that formal action against the violators would be taken only after getting approval from senior authorities in the department.
This incident has raised concerns over accountability within the police force. Citizens voiced frustration, stating that if law enforcers themselves flout rules, it weakens public trust and undermines road safety campaigns.
Moving forward, traffic authorities stress the need for equal enforcement of rules across the board. They believe strict action, regardless of rank or department, is essential to ensure credibility and discipline on roads.
