Published on: July 10, 2025 6:17 PM

KARACHI – A special cricket trials event was held at NED University Ground in Karachi under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. Notable attendees included former Pakistan cricket captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Test cricketer Fakhar Zaman, and PML-N leader Rana Mashhood, who also serves as Chairman of the Youth Programme.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rana Mashhood highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering youth through education, health, and sports initiatives. He said that this year, 23 talent hunt events are planned across Pakistan, beginning with boxing.

He added that the talent hunt program was first launched in Quetta and aims to discover and promote young athletes from all corners of the country. “We want to make sure no talent goes unnoticed, whether it’s in cricket, boxing, or any other sport,” he emphasized.

Rana Mashhood also spoke about the progress being made in field hockey, noting that Pakistan’s national team is showing signs of improvement. He mentioned that preparations are underway to organize the National Youth Games soon.

Meanwhile, the participation of cricket stars Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman added excitement to the trials. Their presence inspired many aspiring young players, who took part in the event with great enthusiasm.

The event marks another important step in the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme’s mission to provide opportunities and platforms for young Pakistanis to showcase their abilities in sports and beyond.
