Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has strongly criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for celebrating the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season despite signs of falling public interest. He said the board ignored key problems affecting the tournament’s success.
After the PCB’s recent review session in Lahore, Tareen took to social media to challenge the board’s claims that stakeholders were satisfied with PSL X. He argued that the league’s real issues had not been addressed and dismissed the PCB’s praise as out of touch.
Tareen pointed to poor TV ratings, low stadium attendance, and a drop in digital engagement as clear signs that fan interest is shrinking. Empty stands in Karachi during the 2025 season highlighted this growing disconnect between the league and its supporters.
He also criticised the tournament’s organisation, calling logistics “shambolic” and describing the player draft as “comical.” According to Tareen, these operational failures have hurt the league’s professionalism and damaged its reputation with both fans and players.
Tareen’s comments have renewed tensions between franchise owners and the PCB. He has repeatedly voiced frustration with the board’s handling of the PSL and called for major changes in how the league is managed.
While the PCB continues to promote PSL X as a success, Tareen’s criticism reflects wider concerns about the league’s future in a competitive sports market where keeping fans engaged is crucial. Many stakeholders feel urgent action is needed to reverse the downward trend.
