Lahore has witnessed a sharp drop in crime during the first half of 2024, according to a newly released police report. Compared to the same period in 2023, serious crime cases have decreased by nearly 50%. Officials say this marks one of the safest six-month periods in recent years for the city.
The report, based on emergency calls made to helpline 15 and FIRs filed, shows a clear downward trend. From January to June 2023, 24,445 serious crimes were reported in Lahore. However, in the same months of 2024, this number dropped significantly to 12,484 — cutting the crime rate nearly in half.
According to police data, a total of 39,260 serious crimes were reported throughout 2023. In contrast, the current year’s mid-term figures reflect a 68% reduction compared to last year and a 49% drop when compared to early 2024 statistics. This includes crimes such as armed robbery, murder, theft, and other major offenses.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran praised the force, stating that these numbers reflect the improved law and order situation in the city. He added that the credit goes to the hardworking officers and teams who remained active in crime prevention, quick response, and community engagement efforts. The police have also increased surveillance and patrols in high-risk areas.
This achievement has been met with positive feedback from citizens and local officials. Many view it as a turning point in restoring public trust and security in Lahore. If the trend continues, Lahore may soon become a model of urban safety in Pakistan. Police say they are committed to sustaining and improving this progress in the coming months.
