Heavy monsoon rains forecast across Pakistan from june 25

Published on: June 23, 2025 5:09 PM

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread monsoon rains across the country starting June 25. The incoming weather system is expected to bring heavy downpours, raising concerns about flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in several regions.

According to the PMD, monsoon winds are entering the upper and central parts of the country, and westerly winds are expected to arrive on June 25. Combined, these systems are likely to trigger rainfall throughout Pakistan.

Rain is expected to begin as early as the night of June 24 in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. From June 25 to July 1, intermittent heavy showers are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galiyat. Similar conditions are predicted in parts of Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Sargodha.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts like Swat, Dir, Chitral, and Shangla could experience intense rainfall. Monsoon showers are also expected between June 25 and 28 in northeastern and southern Balochistan, as well as upper and southeastern Sindh.

Authorities have warned of flash floods in local streams and rivers, particularly in hilly areas such as Murree, Galiyat, Swat, and Kohistan. There’s a risk of landslides in these regions as well.

Low-lying areas in cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore may face flooding. Karachi and Hyderabad could see urban flooding between June 26 and 28. The rains are also likely to disrupt traffic flow in major urban centers.

Citizens are advised to stay updated with official alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
