Pakistan has reached a major milestone in its digital journey by crossing 200 million telecom subscribers, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced. This includes 150 million broadband users and over 2 million Fiber To The Home (FTTH) customers.
To celebrate this achievement, PTA partnered with leading mobile operators like Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, Zong, and SCO to offer all users 2GB of free data and 200 on-net minutes. This special offer is valid for 24 hours on June 20, 2025, and subscribers can claim it by dialing *2200#.
The PTA highlighted its ongoing efforts to promote digital inclusion, especially for female students. Along with telecom companies such as PTCL, Transworld, Nayatel, Cybernet, and Wateen, free Wi-Fi hotspots are being set up at selected universities, focusing on women-only institutions to enhance online learning access.
Furthermore, local mobile manufacturers donated 200 locally assembled smartphones, which will be distributed to female SIM card holders across Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan through a computerized lottery system.
Despite a slight drop in teledensity from 81.4% in June 2023 to 81.21% in June 2025, broadband penetration grew significantly from 53.6% to 60.8% over the same period. This reflects Pakistan’s rapid shift toward better internet connectivity.
IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed that Pakistan is advancing plans to launch 5G services, with preparations already underway. This progress promises to further boost the country’s digital economy and connectivity.
