Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to quickly finalize the National Industrial Policy in consultation with all relevant stakeholders. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, he emphasized the importance of resolving industrial sector challenges and speeding up local manufacturing growth.
The Prime Minister said domestic industries are key to achieving export-led economic progress. He added that the government’s top priority is to equip industries with skilled manpower and modern technology, matching international standards.
He highlighted that recent economic policies were designed to support local industry and encourage investment. Among them is the new tariff rationalization policy, which aims to create a more attractive environment for industrial growth and capital inflow.
During the meeting, officials presented several recommendations focused on reviving Pakistan’s manufacturing sector. They noted that a well-planned industrial policy would provide long-term solutions and support sustainable development in the country.
Separately, the federal government unveiled the draft of the National Tariff Policy 2025–30. It aims to eliminate regulatory duties and additional customs duties within five years and simplify the customs structure into four clear slabs—0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. The plan was introduced during a major conference organized by the Board of Investment, bringing together key figures from the public and private sectors.
