Popular Pakistani actress Sarah Khan is facing social media backlash after her recent comments distancing herself from feminism and expressing a preference for traditional gender roles.
In a candid interview with Independent Urdu, Sarah said she doesn’t consider herself a “big feminist.” Instead, she described herself as a woman from the “old times” who prefers to live a quiet domestic life. She stated that she wants men to be given their designated roles so women can live peacefully.
“I’m a stay-at-home woman. I don’t like standing in long queues to pay bills,” she said. “I want the same protocol women used to receive in the past.”
Her remarks quickly went viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions. One user pointed out that feminism means standing up for the rights of oppressed women, and it has nothing to do with standing in lines or doing chores. Another user criticized her for reinforcing outdated mindsets that limit women’s roles in society, claiming such views hold Pakistan’s progress back.
Sarah also briefly spoke about the blocking of Pakistani celebrities’ Instagram accounts in India. She said she had no idea her account was blocked until her husband, singer Falak Shabir, showed her a screenshot. “I personally didn’t feel bad,” she added, “but I feel sad for my Indian fans who can no longer see my posts.”
