Pakistan has publicly reaffirmed its support for China’s sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh, backing Beijing amid renewed tensions in the region. The Foreign Office (FO) made the statement during its weekly press briefing on Friday, aligning Islamabad’s position with that of its strategic ally.
“We support China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, responding to media questions about territorial claims on Arunachal Pradesh. His remarks follow China’s repeated assertion that the region is part of its territory, a claim disputed by India.
Khan also dismissed Indian media claims of a nuclear fallout following recent cross-border skirmishes as “baseless.” He emphasized that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries have remained in contact since May 10 to uphold a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).
Highlighting the source of the tension, the spokesperson said Indian military aggression triggered the recent conflict, disrupting regional peace. He stated that Pakistan’s response—targeting Indian military installations—was a defensive action under Article 51 of the UN Charter, labeled Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.
Khan welcomed the recent ceasefire understanding and urged India to ensure full compliance with the agreement. He reiterated Pakistan’s call for peace, but also asserted its right to self-defense in response to any future violations.
