LONDON – Senator Sirajul Haq – chief of Jamaat-e-Islami party – called on Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK Syed Ibne Abbas and raised issue of increase in PIA (Pakistan International Airline) fares during the summer vacation as well as delays in flight schedules. During the meeting, issues relating to the Pakistani community in the UK came under discussion. Welcoming the senator, the high commissioner apprised him of mission’s efforts to address issues of the community. He said that the issue of backlog in NADRA cards had been resolved to a great extent through conducting extra surgeries and enhancing the number of personnel. Abbas informed the senator that the number of NADRA cards had been increased from 4,000/month in the past to 16,000/month currently. Similarly, he updated the senator on the community outreach programme of the High Commission in order to connect with the Pakistanis. The high commissioner also informed about mission’s efforts to resolve property related matters of the community back in Pakistan. Based on his feedback from Pakistanis in UK, Senator Siraj appreciated the High Commission’s efforts to reach out to the community and to resolve their issues through provision of better consular services. On the issue of increase in fares and delays in flight schedules, Abbas assured the senator to take up the matter at appropriate level.
