Sir: Nowadays, various public sector organisations, both at the federal and provincial levels, are reported to be spending millions of rupees from the national kitty to have a biometric attendance system in order to ensure the presence of their absent employees, among others. So far several organisations have acquired the system. However, what is the utility of this system that is discriminatory in its nature because those who are in power enjoy immunity under this system? They can come and go whenever they like. Has the introduction of the biometric attendance system enhanced or improved the efficiency of the organisations or is it only an eyewash? We are cognizant of the fact that ours is an unjust society where a vast majority of people do not believe in fair practices. Therefore, this system has proved to be a bane for many and a boon for a few. This attendance system establishes the fact that there is one law for the boss and another law for the employees. The concerned organisations need to invest in the training, capacity building and professionalisation of the public sector employees so that they become more beneficial for their organisations, instead of wasting money in such useless ventures.
