Sir: Domestic violence is a very sad reality, afflicting many women in almost all the countries across the world. This issue has been under debate for a long time, and is a major one regarding women rights even now. The attention is on the adverse impact of physical assaults on not only the body but also the emotional wellbeing of victims. Most of them are so badly shaken by physical assaults that many don’t even find courage to fight their attackers or raise their voice against them. Many declarations by the UN as well as other humanitarian organisations have on focused the plight of women suffering from the brutality of domestic abuse. Nevertheless, no solid step is in implementation in Pakistan that would serve as a deterrent to violence against women. It is, therefore, immediately required by the Sharif government to ensure that the women protection bill passed by the Punjab government is replicated in all provinces, and acted on efficaciously.
