ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has failed to recover around Rs. 40 billion by influential people from general public and from national exchequer due to malafide and incompetence of its officers. Director General (DG) NAB Rawalpindi Zahir Shah made corruption cases from 2009 against plunderers and promised to recover the looted money till the end of 2015 but failed to recover so far even after making second promise of recovery of looted money till March 31st 2016. DG NAB Rawalpindi and his officials have failed to recover the money while 15 cases are reportedly pending. The documents available with Daily Times, inquiries against Pakistan Postal Service Department (PPSD), Pakistan Post Housing Scheme (PPHS) and Defense Housing Authority (DHA) were initiated in 2013, 2011 and 2010 respectively and still are pending. PPSD’s officers were accused of corruption of 100 million rupees, DHA Islamabad was accused of corruption in hundreds acre land and Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) was also accused of 1.56 billion corruption and all the corruption charges are failed to be investigated by NAB officers. Moreover, inquiries in 2010 against the alleged corruption of eight billion rupees in diplomatic enclave, in 2014 against corruption of 1.2 billion rupees in Multi-Professional Co-operative Housing Society and in 2012 against the allotment of plots in Karachi Company are failed to be completed by NAB. Similarly, a case was made against the Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society in 2013 which is still required to be completed. Furthermore, cases were also made against the National Assembly Cooperative Housing Society and Civilian Employees Cooperative Housing Society, on the false dealing of plots with public which are also pending so far. All the cases are pending and no arrest was made so far. In 2014, case was registered on the allotment of plot to Hotel Grand Hayat but failed to be accomplished. A case against National Police Foundation on corruption of 2.2 billion rupees and DHA on corruption of 500 million rupees is also facing same fate. It was reported that DG NAB Rawalpindi is afraid to complete the inquiries because several influential persons are involved in it. An official of NAB told Daily Times on the condition of anonymity that 108 housing societies of Islamabad neither have NOC nor any lay out Plan. DG NAB Rawalpindi and his subordinates always started their inquiries deliberately in a way that space for stay order from court could be created and case could be prolonged more and more.
