PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq says corruption is a major problem of Pakistan and it is eating into vitals of the country like termite. “Corruption is a major problem of the country and people are directly affected by it. Currently, corruption is one of the threats facing the country and it is eating into vitals of the country like termite. We all will have to fight the corrupt system together,” he said while talking to the media here on Monday. Haq was of the view that prime minister’s speech in the National Assembly would not resolve the Panama leaks issue. He said that an independent and transparent commission headed by the chief justice of the Supreme Court would address this issue. This is a golden opportunity to subject the corrupt families to a ruthless accountability, he said. If they are not held accountable today, they will never be held accountable, he added. The JI chief said the rulers breached the trust of the nation. He said that those who plundered national resources accumulated assets in other countries. Those who siphoned off money to offshore accounts have no right to participate in the national politics, he said. People want to keep those away from national politics who looted national wealth, he said. Those who embezzled national wealth lost the right to rule and now they will have to defend themselves in the public, he said.
