KARACHI: Sindh Livestock Department has provided necessary medicines to the Forest Department for medical aid to the ailing peafowls in Thar Desert. According to reports, the population of Thar facing epidemic but the management of wild life in deep rest despite the breeding and feeding of peacocks with precautionary measures, which is a key responsibility of the Wildlife Department. The Forest Secretary Rizwan Memon in a meeting with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House on Monday said that he had dispatched eight teams of Wildlife officers to Thar and had also provided them with one veterinary doctor for each team. On the recommendation of the said team, the Livestock Department’s poultry wing has provided 20,000 vaccines of anti-biotic, 20,000 of vitamins, glucose and others necessary teams, which have been dispatched to Thar. He said, “Our department has arranged feed for the peafowls on its own.” The Wildlife secretary said that out of eight peafowls kept in quarantine at Mithi, four have been released after giving them necessary treatments adding that the Livestock Department has also started vaccines of poultry in the Thar Desert. He said the area of Chowwatio of Thar is more affected where peafowls have suffered. The chief minister said that he has received some reports from Thar that some camels have died due to mysterious disease. He directed his Principal Secretary Alammuddin Bullo to discuss the matter with Livestock Department and take necessary measures to stop this disease. He said that like peafowl, the camels are also the beauty of Thar Desert. He directed the Forest Secretary Rizwan Memon, who also holds the charge of senior member Board of Revenue (BoR) that he would visit Thar district during this week and personally monitor the situation in hospitals, veterinary services, plight of Livestock and development work.
