According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), southern regions of the country, including Sindh, southern Punjab and the plains of Balochistan, are expected to experience intense heatwave conditions. Temperatures in several districts are forecast to remain significantly above seasonal averages, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The advisory also predicts higher-than-normal temperatures in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and northern Punjab until June 10. Authorities have urged residents to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, stay hydrated and take extra precautions for children, elderly people and those with existing health conditions.
Meanwhile, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of northern Punjab on June 11 and 12. Cities including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Lahore may experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Intermittent rain is also forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The NDMA highlighted growing concerns over accelerated glacier melting in northern mountainous regions due to rising temperatures. Areas in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir face an increased risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), flash flooding and landslides.
Districts identified as particularly vulnerable include Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astor, Ghanche, Shigar, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Kohistan. The authority warned that landslides could disrupt major transport routes, including sections of the Karakoram Highway and roads leading to Skardu, Shigar Valley and Deosai.

The NDMA has directed federal and provincial disaster management agencies to strengthen preparedness measures, monitor weather conditions closely and ensure emergency response resources remain on standby. Citizens have been advised to follow official safety guidelines and remain alert throughout the warning period.
