ISLAMABAD: A 12-member committee, approved by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday, will draft the terms of reference (ToRs) to probe the Panama revelations. The committee, which is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, comprises six government ministers (Ishaq Dar, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Khawaja Asif, Anusha Rehman, Akram Durrani and Saad Rafique) and six opposition lawmakers (Aitzaz Ahsan, Muhammad Ali Saif, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Ilyas Ahmed Bilour and Basheer Cheema). According to notification issued by the NA Secretariat, the speaker may replace any member of the committee on the request of the leader of the parliamentary party concerned. The committee will consider options for inquiring into issues raised by the Panama Papers, including offshore companies, transfer of funds from Pakistan originating from corruption, commission or kickbacks, and written-off bank loans. It will also determine the priority level of each of the above. The formulation of ToRs and a timeline for submission will be decided by the committee, which must submit a report to parliament within two weeks.
