KARACHI: The Sindh province has achieved 6th position in Pakistan with regard to education ranking and Karachi is the only district managed to get 43rd rank, while Thatta is again the worst performing district in the province.
This was said in a report by Alif Ailaan. According to the data, the state of school infrastructure have suffered, as only 23 percent of schools could be considered complete in Sindh, while lowest learning outcomes and largest decrease in learning scores has been observed in Sindh province.
According to report, at least 80 percent students attend classes regularly but in Sindh, school attendance is just 67 percent, which is the lowest attendance rate in Pakistan. 722,931 children enrolled in class one and this number falls to just 228,015 in class six, a drop of nearly half a million. There are 22.8 percent schools, which means a total of 10,500 girls out of over 46,000 schools are in the province and the total of 14,4000 teachers out of 44,500 lady teachers are in the province. The level of students is weak and poverty hit.
There are 25 million boys and girls out of school that’s nearly half of all children in the Pakistan, a poor quality of education in Sindh province that disclosed 76 percent students in schools who cannot read English sentence and 55 percent children do not read the Urdu book story and about half of the students are unknown to the Mathematics, English and Urdu respectively.
There is a serious shortage of supply with 47,394 government schools in Sindh, out of which 91 percent are primary schools and only one percent higher secondary schools. The report said that there are 48 percent of government schools in the country, which are in a dangerous and dilapidated condition lacking basic facilities such as furniture, bathrooms, boundary walls, electricity and water. In the schools, corporal punishment is still widespread and is unchecked.
