Repeated violations of Shaheen Airlines put passengers at risk

Published on: June 18, 2016 11:36 PM

ISLAMABAD: The higher authorities have become glum spectators over persistent international norms violations by Shaheen Airlines. Owing to the sheer negligence of Shaheen Airlines, its planes are frequently facing accidents.

A few days ago, a passenger of a private airline boarded a Shaheen Airlines flight from Jeddah to Peshawar. No crew member could explain how the passenger ended up on that flight when he had travelling documents for some other airline. The said passenger was to fly by another private airline from Jeddah to Islamabad but Shaheen Airlines took the passenger to Peshawar. One cabin crew member Madiha Shaheen was sacked as punishment for this negligence.

When contacted, GM Shaheen Airlines Humma Arshid told Daily Times that Madiha Shaheen was terminated from service but she was later reinstated on June 16, 2016.

How the passenger of another private airline boarded a Shaheen Airlines flight and how he reached Peshawar from Jeddah instead of Islamabad, I know nothing about it”, she replied. Shaheen Airlines spokesperson can comment on it, she added.

It is pertinent to mention that the front wheel of a plane of Shaheen Airlines was jammed at Lahore airport on June 16, 2016 but the plane escaped disaster due to the professional skill of the pilot. The plane was removed from the runway with the help of a trolley after the front wheel of flight 708 was jammed. This is not the first accident of a Shaheen Airlines flight.

In fact, its planes have had several accidents in the past. In spite of this, no action has been taken against Shaheen Airlines. Whenever some accident occurs, the management does not take responsibility and shifts the blame to other parties.
