ISLAMABAD: The future of the parliamentary committee set up for framing the unanimous Terms of References (ToRs) to probe into the Panama papers leaks stands bleak, following the decision of four major opposition political parties, to leave the committee. Sources said that the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the PML-Q had also indicated they would too accept the unanimous decision of the opposition parties with regard to ToRs and will not move to the parliamentary committee. This way four out of 6 opposition parties have sent a message to the government on leaving the parliamentary committee. On the other hand the National Awami Party (NAP) and the MQM are eager to stay in the parliamentary committee. The joint opposition accepted three out of four ToRS of the government but the federal ministers kept on using dilatory tactics. The parliamentary committee could agree on a prelude and several meetings of the parliamentary committee have remained inconclusive. Opposition parties said after every meeting a deadlock persisted between them and the government but the government team said a headway had been made at the meeting. The PPP and the PTI decided to leave the parliamentary committee when no contact was made by the government and the PTI has filed a petition at the election commission seeking adisqualification of the PM. The PPP while announcing that it would leave the parliamentary committee decided to file a petition at the election commission against the PM as well as a reference in NAB. The PPP Secretary General Latif Khosa will file a petition against the PM at the election commission and a reference in NAB. The PPP will also file a reference at the election commission for the disqualification of Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz and Maryam Nawaz. Leaving the parliamentary committee and filing references at the election commission by the opposition has added to the difficulties of the government. The ministers are giving defensive statements and criticising the PTI and the PPP.
