ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has filed a reference in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for disqualification of five leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. PPP Additional Secretary Sardar Latif Khosa filed the reference on Monday for disqualification of the prime minister, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and MNAs Hamza Shahbaz and Capt (Retd) Safdar. He took the plea in the reference that the prime minister and other respondents hid their assets and income. He said that money was stashed in offshore bank accounts to help prime minister’s sons set up offshore companies illegally. All documentary evidence has been given with the reference, he said. Talking to media men outside the ECP offices, Khosa said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his ministers were making abortive attempts to misguide the nation. He said the prime minister and his family members indulged in loot and plunder of national resources. Change of government does not make any difference to the state, he said. “We have offered ourselves for accountability. We have filed a reference consisting of hundreds of pages in the election commission,” he said. Many world leaders have resigned from their offices after the revelations made by the Panama Papers, but in Pakistan the situation was otherwise, he added.
