Social Media Day: A global celebration

Published on: June 30, 2016 11:41 AM

Social Media Day is an annual global event celebrated on June 30 that acknowledges the digital revolution happening around the globe. The day was initiated in 2010 by the famous website Mashable, which sees fans of the site going to real life meet-ups. Since its launch in 2010, Social Media Day has turned out to be an international celebration.

Social media, apparently, is all over these days. Though the days of social media pioneer Myspace are now long gone, we’re constantly hearing about trending topics on Twitter and Instagram, laughing at social media failures and hits while many people are obsessive about keeping up with their Facebook news feed. Even if Facebook and Twitter are not liked by you, there’s still blogging, Snapchat, Flickr, and even LinkedIn, among many others.

Social media has become a major factor in the world. For many of us, it is how we keep up with what our friends are up to, even if they’re on the other side of the planet. It has also played a big part in world events. Twitter and Instagram is a great way to keep up with what your favourite celebrities are up to and even, once in a blue moon, you could get lucky enough to receive their replies through these social media platforms.

Even businesses have acknowledged the worth of social media for linking with clients and advertising their product, as well as rapidly informing users about issues disturbing their service.

Hence, what would be the best way to celebrate Social Media Day and make it memorable? The answer is obvious! Let your networks know and spread the knowledge. Start a hashtag, upload a photo, and update your status. Moreover, remember about the nobel causes which needs to be highlighted in order to bring peace and prosperity to this globe. You surely won’t be alone as social media is still expanding like wildfire all over the world. Whatever you do, wherever you are, don’t forget to celebrate #socialmediaday
