KARACHI: The historic grave of supreme commander of Talpur Army of Sindh province, Hoshu Sheedi, who spoke out popular slogan Marvesoon, Par Sindh na Desoon “We will die but not give Sindh to others”, has become the victim of lethargic attitude of the authorities concerned, Daily Times has learnt. The popular slogan “Marvesoon, Par Sindh na Desoon” can always be heard whenever the Sindh’s politicians, particularly from the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), find themselves in public wrath in interior districts of the province. The slogan once again became known to general public when it was spoken out by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. According to sources, the historic grave of Hoshu Sheedi has been the victim of lethargic attitude of Culture and Tourism Department of Sindh, which is being run by Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister, Sharmila Farooqi, since long. Sources said that Sindh government has allocated Rs 10 million funds for the proper maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of the grave, however, the situation on ground gives different look. Sources said, “The foundation stone of the project to rebuild tomb and maintain the grave has almost been destroyed while the actual grave of Hoshu Sheedi is filled with debris.” General Hosh Muhammad Sheedi known as Hoshu Sheedi fought with courage and bravery against the British troops under the Sir Charles Napier at the War of Dabboo, and martyred in the protection of his homeland on March 24, 1843. Hoshu Sheedi belonged to the African-descent Sheedi community of the Sindh province. Before his death in the War of Dubboo, he spoke out the popular slogan, “The slogan was genuinely coined by the dynasty of Talpur in the War of Miani.” Hosh Muhammad fought with such courage and heroism that even his rival Sir Charles Napier paid great honour and buried him with complete military honours. Sources said that the ancient mausoleum of Hosho Sheedi is in shambles as the waste material and garbage from the nearby village are being dumped at the site adding that the historical shrine is being destroyed as there is no proper system of disposing waste and garbage. However, the Sheedi community members had built concrete walls around Hosho Sheedi’s grave to protect it from further damage. When contacted, Sindh Culture and Tourism Department Planning Director Roshan Ali told Daily Times that Rs 10 million had been allocated for the shrine of Hoshu Sheedi. He said, “The repair and reconstruction of tomb has been started and it would be completed very soon.”
