LAHORE: A 22-year-old pregnant woman was burnt alive by her brother-in-law over some domestic issue in Shadbagh area, while eight others including a woman were killed in different incidents across the city on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Sidra, wife of Waqas, and resident of Baghatpura, Shadbagh. She got married one-and-a-half-year ago and was seven months pregnant. The accused, identified as Waris, was the elder brother of Waqas and was allegedly said to be mentally disabled. On the day of incident, the deceased was present in her room while other family members were out of the house. The accused exchanged harsh words with his sister-in-law over some unknown issue, doused her with petrol and burnt her alive. The accused locked the door before escaping the scene. Upon being informed, family members and number of locals gathered at the spot and tried to rescue the girl but to no avail. Police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the dead body to city mortuary for autopsy. Shadbagh Police Station Sub-inspector Mushtaq told Daily Times that as per initial investigation, Waqas was on his workplace while other family members were not present in the house when the incident occurred. He said that police was investigating the matter from all angles, assuring that the culprit would be arrested soon. Meanwhile, a man committed suicide by shooting himself after killing his wife over unknown issue in Block ‘B’ of Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The deceased couple included 35-year-old Qamar, a driver by profession, and his 28-year-old wife Kishwar, who worked in a local beauty parlour. Police received a radio message about the incident and reached the spot where the deceased couple’s 10-year-old son Rajab informed that he heard his parents quarrelling over some issue on in the wee hours of Saturday. He said on Saturday morning, he knocked the door of his parents’ room but no one answered. Rajab said he called his neighbour Imran, who broke the door and found the dead bodies lying in a pool of blood. Police said that deceased belonged to Sargodha and lived in a rented house for last four years, adding that as per initial enquiry, it seemed that the man committed suicide after killing his wife over some issue. Police also recovered a pistol as well as collected circumstantial evidence on the spot and sent it to the forensic lab. An official said that the actual cause of death could be ascertained only after the arrival of postmortem report and further investigation. Police did not register the case until filing of this report and moved the dead bodies to city mortuary for autopsy. Moreover, three men were gunned down by their rival over old enmity in Chung area. The deceased have been identified as Amanat and his son Adnan, residents of Chung village. On the day of incident, Amanat, his son Adnan and relative Irfan were on their way to appear before the court in a murder case. The accused, identified as Imran, along with his accomplice, approached near them and opened fire. As a result, Amanat, his son Adnan died on the spot while Rizwan succumbed to his injuries during his treatment at a local hospital. The accused surrendered in Chung police station and told the police that both persons were murdered over some issue that occurred a few months back. Imran told the police that their rivals threatened him to not pursue the case otherwise they would kill him. Police shifted the dead bodies to a morgue and started investigation into the double murder case. Separately, three people were killed as a poultry truck rammed into another truck parked along roadside near Manga Mandi area. According to details, the incident took place when a speeding poultry truck that was en route to Lahore collided with another truck near Manga Mandi By Pass Road resulting into their instant death. Police reached at the scene and shifted the dead bodies to morgue. The deceased have been identified as Nadeem who belonged to Pak Pattan, Shafaqat from Sargodha and Mohammad Safdar from Khushab. Later, police handed over the dead bodies to their heirs after completing the legal formalities.
