ISLAMABAD: The precious land of the Civil Aviation Authority worth more than five billion rupees has been encroached upon by private people and they have now constructed a marriage hall on it. This has been revealed in a public document submitted to the parliamentary committee for scrutiny of CAA record and its financial health. The public document available with Daily Times reveals that commercial land measuring five ,adjacent to the Karachi airport, has now been encroached upon by private firms whose connection with powerful political people has also been proved. The Sindh government allotted this piece of land, in the jurisdiction of Mehran Tapo Malir, to the civil aviation authority on 99 years’ lease for its needs but with the connivance of some black sheep sitting in the CAA, a Karachi-based private firm has occupied the land and has reportedly constructed a huge commercial plaza on it. The misuse of this commercial land by private firms has caused a loss of more than five billion rupees to the national exchequer but the senior administration of the CAA have sheepishly kept mum over the matter. The document also reveals that the Civil Aviation Authority administration has also allotted a jogging track from its elite club land to a private firm and now it has constructed a marriage hall on this piece of land. The document also raises the question over the authorities of the CAA whether they could dole out such precious land from a playground for commercial purpose or not. Now the parliamentary committee is going to start a debate on this issue. Another government department ASF, has also encroached upon a huge piece of CAA land worth 12 billion rupees near Benazir International Airport Islamabad and Karachi. The source said that the ASF had erected a building over the encroached upon land and also refused to withdraw its occupation from it saying that the ASF was a government organisation and it had the right to use government land for its personal purposes. ASF personals residing in the flat erected on the encroached upon land are also getting their residence allowance thus causing billions of rupees loss to the national kitty.
