ISLAMABAD: The employees of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) have ended their strike, after negotiating with the State Minister Capital Administrative Development Authority (CADD), Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudary. While addressing the protestors, the State Minister CADD Tariq Fazal Chaudary, said that the government would not go against the interest of the hospital and the university.”We will present the bill in the National Assembly’s standing committee on Cabinet regarding separation of PIMS to Shaheed Zulfqar Ali Bhutto University”, he added. Tariq Fazal Chaudary met the chairman of PIMS Restoration Movement on the second day of protest in PIMS. He heard the problems and demands of the PIMS Restoration Movement and briefed the association about the government’s actions for separating the university from the hospital. While addressing the protesters the state minister said that the staff’s welfare was the main priority of the government and it would take care about the interests of every employee. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took personal interest in health and education issues. The PM provided the special grant to upgrade the facilities of PIMS and would do more in future. There should be not politics in resolving the public’s problems The state minister stated that people suffered due to the strike and this resulted in a bad name for the employees of the hospital. The Chairman of PIMS Restoration committee Asfandyar Khan, while talking to Daily Times said that all the associations of PIMS were on the same page regarding the separation of PIMS from SZABMU and the committee would take care of the rights of employees. “Moreover we have a support of the employees of Poly Clinic, NIH, NIRM on this issue and they are standing with us”, he added. “We will go for a prolonged protest if the government does not present the bill regarding separation of SZABMU from the PIMS Hospital in the NA’s standing committee on cabinet on August 26”, he added.
