MUZAFFARABAD: Muhammad Masood Khan was sworn in as the president of Azad Jammu Kashmir in Muzaffarabad on Thursday, according to a press release.

The ceremony, held at the Legislative Assembly, was administered by Chief Justice, Muhammad Azam Khan, who also conferred Guard of Honours upon the newly-elected president. Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, Azad Jammu Kashmir former president, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shah Ghulam Qadir, Federal Minster for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgat Baltistan, Barjees Tahir, as well as several Kashmiri ministers and lawmakers, were also present.

While talking to media sources, President Masood called upon the Indian government to stop its undue violence and ongoing atrocities on the innocent Kashmiris in Indian held Kashmir. He further added that the future generations of Kashmiris would never forgive India for the treatment it had meted out to the people of the valley. “The resolution of Kashmir dispute, good governance and development was our agenda,” he asserted. The president also commended the government and people of Pakistan for always extending their full moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris.
