Police have arrested the main suspect in the murder of a Rangers personnel in Karachi’s Lyari area, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to DIG South Asad Raza, the suspect, identified as Sahil, was taken into custody after fleeing to Balochistan following the killing. Law enforcement agencies traced his whereabouts and carried out the arrest during a targeted operation.
The senior police officer said the suspect is the son of a police officer. Preliminary investigations indicate that the killing stemmed from a personal dispute rather than any militant or organized criminal motive.
Investigators believe the suspect carefully planned the attack and conducted surveillance on the victim before carrying out the shooting. Police say evidence collected during the investigation suggests the crime was premeditated.
The victim, Rangers personnel Abdul Qayyum, was shot and killed in Lyari on July 18. The incident prompted an investigation involving police and other law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Officials said the suspect’s escape to Balochistan initially complicated the investigation, but coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies led to his arrest. Police are continuing to investigate the case to determine whether any other individuals assisted in planning or facilitating the crime.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about the evidence recovered from the suspect or whether further arrests are expected. Investigators are also completing legal formalities before presenting the accused before a court.
