International training programme in performance auditing concludes

The Auditor General of Pakistan has specified that stakeholders and legislature want multidimensional view of things for accountability in public sector.

For this purpose, the officers of the PA&AS need to move from compliance issues to the strategic issues and innovative ideas need to be generated to keep pace with the changing times.

The Auditor General of Pakistan gave these remarks on the closing ceremony of three-week International Intensive Training Program in Performance Auditing (103-ITP) held at the INDIGO HEIGHTS (Hotel & Suites), 3-C-3, NoorJehan Road, Gulberg-III, Lahore.

Twenty (20) Audit Managers from Supreme Audit Institutions of Botswana, Libya, Nepal, Oman, Turkey and Pakistan participated.

Mr. Javaid Jehangir, Auditor General of Pakistan gave his valedictory address and formally closed the training program. The program was scheduled from February 17th to March 6, 2020. The purpose of the program was to enhance the analytical skills of audit managers of the SAIs to: excel their professional knowledge and capabilities in the field of performance auditing; to apply performance audit techniques more effectively; to sensitize the higher operational management of the department; and to brainstorm the auditors to meet the challenges and keep pace with international trends.

Auditor General of Pakistan in his speech said that SAI Pakistan has a tradition to hold ITP in Performance Auditing for the last 40 years. Its purpose is to share knowledge and experience with other SAIs for mutual understanding. Government partners like Media, non-government organizations want us to give more information about the processes in our system and that is where we need performance auditing.

This international training program was organized by the Directorate General Performance Audit Wing (PAW), Department of the Auditor General of Pakistan, Lahore. The ceremony was attended Mr. Zamir Ahmad, Additional Auditor-General-II, Mr. Shujaud Din Zaka, Accountant General Punjab Lahore, Mr. Fareed Mehmood Ch., Rector Pakistan Audit & Accounts Academy, Lahore, Ms. Tanveer Hamid, Deputy Auditor General (Central), Lahore and other senior officers of the Pakistan Audit and Accounts Department. Director General, Performance Audit Wing, Lahore welcomed the guests. She highlighted salient features of the training program and told the audience that Participants of 103 ITP especially Foreign Participants were exposed to Pakistani culture and tradition.

Mr. Abia Kavei an Audit Manager from Botswana, while offering comments and feedback on behalf of foreign participants, termed Pakistan as his second home and appreciated the management of Department of the Auditor General of Pakistan for conducting a meaningful training and their comfortable stay in Pakistan. He specially thanked Auditor General of Pakistan for such a wonderful opportunity of specialized training to foreign Participants.
