ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party’s leader Senator Rehman Malik has strongly condemned US congressmen Ted Poe and Dana Rohrabacher for moving an anti- Pakistan bill in US Congress. While talking to the media, he said that Pakistan feels that the US Congress should not impose its own US local law on other sovereign countries on the recommendation of some congressmen being manipulated by few lobbyists as it will go against the United Nation charters and International relations.
He said that such moves were against the basic principles of international law and relations which are based on equality between nations. Senator A. Rehman Malik, who is also the Senate Standing Committee Chairman on Interior and Narcotics Control said that elements of mutual respect do not permit imposing domestic laws of one country upon other countries on the request of Indian or anti Saudi lobbyists.
“Surprisingly, Congressmen Ted Poe and Dana Rohrabacher are proposing and supporting such notorious bills against two sovereign states i.e. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia”, he added. Malik said that the issuance of such law will affect the world law and order and create an atmosphere of mistrust in the international political arena and it shall establish a dangerous status in the relations between global communities.
“I advocate as the Chairman Senate Standing Committee of Pakistan and wish that such a law is not passed by the US lawmakers and gets vetoed by President Barak Obama as such a law will wide open the doors to other countries to issues similar laws which will affect the international efforts against terrorism” said Senator Rehman Malik.
He said that such a law against Saudi and Pakistan would deeply hurt the Muslim Ummah as a whole and could divide the world based on religion. Such moves are against the spirit of interfaith harmony initiatives of President Barak Obama.
‘I request President Obama and the congress itself to respect the sovereignty of other countries and take steps to promote interfaith harmony and bring the civilisations closer in the interest of international peace,” appealed Rehman Malik. He said that it is being engineered by a specific lobby to use the outcome of such moves in the forthcoming elections of USA. He said that the international relations which are based on equality of nations and respective sovereignty for states must be respected.
Rehman Malik said, ‘I am sure that President Obama, the American public and the whole Congress is aware of Pakistan’s importance in the Islamic world, South Asia and its vital role in fighting against terrorism rendering numerous sacrifices. The very creation of United Nations is based on the above basic principles and rights of every sovereign nation. We appeal to the president of United Nation to avoid such laws by vetoing it in the interest of interfaith harmony and to save the allies on war on terror from alienation.”
