Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday directed the Secretary Foreign Affairs to maintain constant contact with Pakistani students in Wuhan and keep their families informed about their well-being. He gave this direction during a meeting here with Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza and Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari. Foreign Secretary Suhail Mehmood was also present in the meeting. The Prime Minister inquired about the details and the current status of Pakistanis in China, particularly Pakistani students in Wuhan. He also took briefing about the health of Pakistani students in Wuhan. Special Assistant to PM on Health briefed the prime minister regarding the current situation of coronavirus and the special measures being taken in the country to protect people from the virus. Separately, Imran Khan said the government was giving utmost priority to ease-of-doing business and promotion of tourism to boost economic activity in the country. The prime minister stated this in a meeting, attended by Adviser to PM on Establishment Shehzad Arbab, Finance Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra, Chairman Board of Investment Syed Zulfiqar Haider Gilani, which discussed proposals on planning and administrative matters in different fields. The prime minister said Pakistan had immense tourism potential, adding that promotion of this sector would generate big revenue and create job opportunities. He mentioned that business community was being facilitated to improve financial activity and attain social and economic development. The prime minister was apprised that McKinsey Company for the last several years, had been serving in Pakistan by providing expert consultation on policy-making related to good governance in order to improve administration in public interest. He welcomed consultation by McKinsey on establishment of tourism-related infrastructure and facilities and also tourism keeping in view local social values. He regretted that previous governments for their personal gains and corruption, inflicted huge damage to institutions, which resulted in problems of common man. The prime minister mentioned that apathy towards power sector in the past put unnecessary burden on consumers, for which the government was making efforts to facilitate them. The meeting also discussed austerity by the government and judicious use of public money. Separately, Minister for Pakistan Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed called on Imran Khan on Tuesday in Islamabad. The two dignitaries discussed matters pertaining to the current political environment in the country. Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed apprised the premier of the ongoing project of ML-1 and briefed him on the railways business plan. The meeting between the federal minister and the prime minister took place before a scheduled cabinet meeting. Earlier on February 3, Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that an increase in the income of Railways is his top priority. Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Sunday, Sheikh Rasheed said the deficit of Railways has been reduced by Rs4 billion, Radio Pakistan reported. The minister said Karachi is the economic hub of the country, therefore steps are being taken to connect the city with other parts of the country through freight train service. Minister for Religious Affairs Noor-ul-Haq Qadri and Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry also separately called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday.
