LAHORE: The first day of the PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Week 2016 kicked off in the city at a local hotel in full swing, as we saw our favourite couturiers display an ostentatious display of bridal wear.
HSY
The designer presented his bridal collection as the opening show for PLBW Day 1. Mesmerising ethnic craftsmanship adorned flowy modern silhouettes for a look that would definitely appeal to stylish young brides. The new fashion styles continued with his signature dabka, thread work and intricate embroidery. The rustic accessories were eye catching. The collection was all about redefining the traditional bride. HSY gave us a high voltage drama of style and opulence. Urwa and Mawra Hocane showstopped for the designer.
Bank Alfalah Rising Talent
The Bank Alfalah Rising Talent show introduced three emerging bridal designers; Sara Naqvi, Maryam Amjad and Amina Naeem. Sarah Naqvi’s asymmetrical hemlines and voluminous dresses in pink were the highlight of the show. The fabrics used in Maryam Amjad’s collection were draped in a fluid fashion, the tie dye trend and 3D-embellished florals were prominent throughout her collection. Amina Naeem opted for modern cuts in hues of beige and gold with hints of bright colours in her collection.
Sania Maskatiya
The Karachi-based designer’s bridal trousseau not only featured women’s wear, but she showcased men’s wear for the first time on this platform. The collection consisted of traditional designs and techniques for a modern day contemporary bride, envisioning ethereal elegance and sophistication. We saw some old school silhouettes in muted hues of pinks and gold, highlighting regal motifs in aari, gota, tissue and resham work on lavish silhouettes. It was all about motifs. Every outfit had a tale of its own. The outfits were adorned with the designer’s trademark flawless craftsmanship. The move away from the usual bridal palette of traditional colours was a refreshing one.
Saira Shakira
Saira Shakira’s bridal collection ‘Zohra’, was an amalgamation of muted pastels with hints of golds and reds, featuring long flowy and sleek cuts. We saw a whimsicality of shapes and creativity of materials in their collection. We loved the bejewelled majestic floor-sweeping lehngas. Florals ruled the ramp albeit in a more vintage avatar than usual.
The House of Kamiar Rokni
The trio of Kamiar Rokni, Tia Noon and Rehan Bashir of the coveted House of Kamiar Rokni drew the curtains on Day 1 with their collection titled ‘Heritage 2016’. The collection was based in rich fabrics, from heavy velvets to rich, pure silks complemented by tissue, organza net as well as touches of brocade and jamavar. Expect craftsmanship engaging traditional zardozi, resham and gota with accents of pearl and crystal. Soft and pastel pinks, aquas, lemons, whites and blues to a medley of strong, sharp and bright colours were trending on the ramp with traditional silhouettes. The collection was rooted in tradition. Their attempt to move towards classic was successful as the clothes had a timeless appeal to them. Complementing the collection was a range of exquisite jewellery by Sonica Jewellers.
