World Heart Day

Published on: October 1, 2016 10:00 PM

Sir: The world observes “World Heart Day” on 29th of September every year to spread the awareness about the different diseases pertaining to it. We should make the people aware of the symptoms, kinds of heart diseases, their prevention and treatment. Obesity is one of the leading cause of heart diseases. We need to change our lifestyle to combat with vascular diseases.

Individuals from 30 to 40 years are more susceptible to fall victim to heart disease of some kind if they remain inactive and lethargic. We must find out the early warning signs of the disease. Pain in the arm or another body part should not be ignored. A periodic checkup of weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and complete blood exam must be done just as a precaution.

Usually, the treatment of heart disease is quite expensive. The government should subsidise the treatment and make funds available for the poor patients. Patients must follow the doctor’s advice and take care of their diet, exercise and eating habits. They should add fresh vegetable and fruits to their diet.

Common types of heart diseases are Hypertensive, Ischemic, Cerebrovascular, or inflammatory, coronary artery disease, cardio-myopathy, pericardia, heart murmur, and sudden cardiac death.

The treatment angioplasty is very popular. It is a non-surgical procedure that can be used to open blocked arteries. Stent placement is another option that can be done during angioplasty. Heart bypass surgery can be used to treat heart diseases when coronary arteries are blocked.

The awareness about the symptoms of heart diseases and precautions should be undertaken by through different campaigns using media channels. Thousands of people suffering from such diseases die every year even without a diagnosis.
