ISLAMABAD: The Utility Store Corporation (USC) officials have failed to curtail the financial loss and prevent the department from corruption despite spending millions of rupees on their meetings. The plan to computerise all stores of the chain was limited to files and paperwork only, as no practical step was taken in this regard despite the lapse of three years. Dishonest officers and staff of the corporation were still roaming around freely despite being involved in corruption of millions of rupees. Documents available with Daily Times revealed that the government had fixed the limit of expenditure of Rs 600,000 per year for each USC board member, but they had received Rs 1,325,000 per annum on account of honorarium, as 18 board members received Rs 238 million in total, which was sheer violation of rules and regulations. Sources told this scribe that the number of members was increased on the recommendation of the board, adding that two hotels were reserved for the board members, but they preferred staying at most expensive hotels for their meetings.
