ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq has said that the government was not sincere in investigating the scandal of Panama Papers. “We have witnessed the government’s attitude, it’s not sincere in resolving the issue of Panama scandal, but now all eyes were on the Supreme Court for justice,” he said, while speaking to reporters at Supreme Court on Thursday. Earlier, the apex court heard five petitions regarding Panama Papers disclosures relating to alleged offshore companies of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s sons and daughter. Following the preliminary hearing, the court issued notices to all parties, including the PM, named in the petitions, ordering them to file reply within 15 days. The apex court also issued notices to the federal government to come up with answers by furnishing para-wise comments on the points highlighted in the petitions. The petitions were taken up by a three-judge Supreme Court bench, consisting of Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain. The JI’s petition, in which Siraj did not name the premier as a respondent, asks for orders to the federal government to arrest the culprits, recover and bring public money, which was illegally transferred from Pakistan to offshore companies, back to the country.
