KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies and police on Sunday morning have arrested All Pakistan Shia Action Committee chief Allama Mirza Yusuf Husain from his residence at Nazimabad. Later, Rangers also arrested another religious leader Taj Hanfi from Nagin Chowrangi area. The police have also detained several people from different areas after recent targeted killings in the city. On Friday, six people including two leaders of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) were shot dead at Patel Para, Shafiq Morr, and Hyderi. Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) termed Hussain’s detention “a conspiracy to foil Karachi operation”. Hussain is a prayer leader at Noor-e-Emaan Masjid adjacent to his residence at Nazimabad. Earlier, former Senator and PPP leader Faisal Raza Abidi was arrested on Saturday. “Faisal Raza Abidi was taken into custody in connection with the killing of two men of Tableeghi Jamaat in Patel Para on Friday,” Jamshed Quarters SP Tahir Noorani told Daily Times, adding that Abidi was arrested for his alleged involvement in the double murder case. The spokesperson of police claimed that Abidi is being investigated for some previous cases of sectarian killings.
