LAHORE: Lahore Garrison Club won the 10th Royal Palm Golf Team Championship that concluded at the Royal Palm Club Golf Course here Sunday. Lahore Garrison, comprising two golfers under 20 years of age – Muhammad Saqib and Ahmed Baig – and two other seniors – Nadeem Ahmed and Ayaz Saleem – played consistent golf and with power hitting ensured victory for their team. Royal Palm Club attained the runners-up position and managed to edge past Gymkhana Greens through a performance of excellence by their team members M Rehman and Hussain Hamid. While Rehman came up with an outstanding round of gross 72, Hussain performed splendidly and his final round score of gross 74 did wonders to enable Royal Palm to excel over Gymkhana Greens. Lahore Garrison had an aggregate team score of 690, followed by Royal Palm 699 and Gymkhana Greens 703. Bahria Town Garden City came fourth and their team score was 709. Gymkhana Blues had a team score of 711 and Karachi A ended at a score of 728. The gross honours in individual category fell in the welcoming lap of Ghazanfar Mahmood of Bahria Garden City Golf Club, the top amateur golfer of the country. Ghazanfar won the first gross prize with rounds of 68, 75 and 74 and a three days aggregate gross score of 217. Ahmed Baig of Lahore Garrison came second with three rounds scores of 73, 78 and 75 and an aggregate of 226. Rehman of Royal Palm Club was third with scores of 74, 82 and 72 and an aggregate of 228. In the women’s competition, Parkha Ijaz was the best one in net event and grabbed the first net. The second net winner was Sameea Javed Ali and third net was won by Nighat Ikram. In the gross event, the top performer was Ana James Gill (Royal Palm Club), Rimsha Ijaz of MRG was second, Zaib-un-Nisa of Royal Palm Club was third. Pakistan’s veteran journalist Arif Nizami was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony.
