Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Sunday said that the opposition was all free to hold protests and rallies and no hindrance would be created in opposition’s protest. He said that no-confidence move against the Senate chairman was the opposition’s right, and clarified that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was not involved in any horse trading to save the Senate chairman. The Punjab governor stated this while speaking at a seminar “Paralysis, Fatal Disease and its Treatment” held in Lahore on Sunday, and later while talking to the media. Dr Shehzad Anwar and Dr Waqar Ashraf were also present on the occasion. He said that the institutions and political parties were on the same page against terrorism, and added that the terrorist attack at the Pak-Afghan border was an attack on peace. Sarwar said, “We will not let terrorists destabilise Pakistan… we are standing in support with our armed forces.” He said the ‘health card’ initiative by the federal and Punjab governments was a plausible gift for the public to provide them with basic health facilities. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the government is striving to find sustainable solutions for prevailing crises.” He explained that fatal hepatitis spreads from contaminated water and the Aab-e-Pak authority was an initiative to provide clean drinking water across Punjab in a span of five years. Regarding the recent attacks on soldiers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, he said the number of sacrifices “our armed forces and nation has rendered is unprecedented in this world, and whenever we move towards sustainable peace in the region, conspiracies against peace through terrorist attacks are initiated”. He said the entire nation saluted the martyrs of armed forces who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism, and added that “our nation is united in the fight against terrorism”. Sarwar said that his objective was to work for humanity and the “basic manifesto of our government is to provide the common man with justice and all the basic essentials of life. He said that paralysis was a fatal health threat and if not treated in time it could kill. “Rest assured that the government will contribute its maximum to eradicate this health threat,” he said. He said there were a lot of health-related issues and one reason for the rapid spread of diseases was unavailability of clean water. He regretted that the people were suffering from waterborne diseases, especially children. The Punjab governor said that all the major activities in the world depended on health, and added that a nation with healthy people would have a prosperous economy, its literacy rate would be high and industries would also flourish. “A healthy society gives birth to healthy kids, and a nation with empty hospitals will have a population with healthy and prosperous people,” he concluded.
