ISLAMABAD: A German musical evening celebrated with German classical opera singer Philomena Poetis and pianist Mai-Anh Nguyen under the auspices of the German Embassy at its premises has caused ripples of ecstasy in the drowsy heaving wintry nights, of Islamabad, a city hissing with memories of days gone by. Philomena Poetis spangled the oozing night with German, Italian and in the end one English song coruscating layers upon layers breathing delight in the milieu. “Every moment stands transformed into a momentous particle of life, said the sparkling eyes from a retreating despair studded face. “Oh no lady of blazing eyes, this is evening full of froth, that crawls and then paces like the vanity of an old athlete”, some youthful eyes moaned dizzyingly. How melodious is the tone, the singer is drizzling in every corner of this bubbling environment, interrupts an almond eyed lady. Yes, but it looks like a tale of two despondent hearts. Are they tied into bonds of jilted friendship, No, no they are on the way to perfection. But they are enthralled by dreams and dreams know no perfection. A jilted friendship is always a dream, destined to never to come true. And Mai-Anh Nguyen played piano during her singing. The classical music show by two pretty, young girls from Germany to superb performances enthralled the audience. The duo brought people of diverse backgrounds and cultures to see their performance, diplomats, representatives of INGOs and locals, despite the majority of audience not understanding German, they did enjoy the songs and rhythm of the music. They performed on classic beats consisting of masterpieces from Europe’s prominent opera like composer Giacomo Puccini, Mozart, Monteverdi, Franz Lehar, Robert Schhuman, Flix Mendelssohn, Franz Schubert, Richard Staruss, Maz Reger, Jay Althouse and others. Poetis German with a Hanseatic mother, and father raised in Cyprus said after the that this was her second trip to Pakistan and that she previously came here in the month of Jaunary,2016. She disclosed that she is also doing her Ph.D and her area of research is “Social Media in Pakistan and Germany”. “I am really happy to perform here and last week both performed in Karachi too. The people of Pakistan love music too much and they got a tremendous response from the audience, while performing” she said. Mai-Anh told Daily Times that she was German, but her ancestors were from Vietnam. She said that she was delighted to perform and this was her first trip to Pakistan. “We got a great response from the audience, despite of that many people did not understand German and Italian languages but as music is a universal language people understand the same in that way” she said. Mai-Anh said that without piano German music cannot be completed adding that she also can play the violin. Before the performances, the Ambassador of Germany Ina Lepel in her opening remarks introduced the musicians and thanked the participants for attending the musical evening. Speaking to Daily Times, Ambassador Lepel said that she was very happy to see wonderful performances of two young girls in German, Italian and one song as well in English. She said that lots of people came here and enjoyed the German flavour of classical music, despite that some might not be familiar with German language. But, they too enjoyed the spirit of the songs and the music. Medical practitioner Dr. Saira Mubeen told this scribe that she understands German language and really enjoyed the performances of the duo. She said these types of programmes should be frequently held so that people can enjoy more She said that in Pakistan very few people understand opera and she suggested to the Germans and other European missions here that they should start opera classes that people can understand them here too. Young Pakistani, Zara Farooq said it was a nice, wonderful and soul touching performance of the German duo. She said though she does not understand German yet she appreciates the efforts of the embassy for arranging the entertainment.
