Karachi is the biggest city of Pakistan and the capital of Sindh province. If I start making a list of problems and deficiencies in Karachi, it will be a long one and would continue without end. The purpose of this article is not to revile, but to express my concern over the halted development in Karachi since decades. Firstly, Karachi is well recognised by its seaport which is yet the most stable significant financial and industrial centre of our country. Karachi port is the golden sparrow of Pakistan and accounts to 75 percent of whole nation’s trade. Despite being too prestigious, no investment on the people of Karachi can be seen. Furthermore, Karachi is the busiest and the most populated city of Pakistan. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Karachi is the fourth least liveable city in the world. This official report indicates how notorious Karachi is now known to be worldwide. The reason behind the devastating state of the city is because of lack of political attention given to it. Moreover, the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmad had said that Karachi is the “worst” city in Pakistan. He stated that at least Rs 9 million was stolen at gunpoint in crowded places. Police has failed to ensure security owing to corruption and bribe taking. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Karachi is the fourth least liveable city in the world. This official report indicates how notorious Karachi is now known to be worldwide. The reason behind the devastating state of the city is lack of political attention given to it Concurrently, Karachi is on the top in giving taxes nonetheless people are deprived of fundamental rights like safe drinking water, hygienic foods, electricity, employment, quality education and many more. An analogy for given above can be expressed likewise, the study finds that 90 percent of water in Karachi is impure that is causing many viral diseases such as diarrhoea, an open example. One can often see fields of fruits and vegetables being planted in gutters and evacuated liquefied sewage of mills. Forthwith, as a student, I sense load shedding to be a big hurdle specifically for students. Because students are given lectures, presentations and assignments. This is only possible in presence of electricity. Besides, the broken roads have critically been one of the disturbing issues of Karachi. These broken roads meant to be the reasons of so many deadliest accidents. Roads in abroad are symbolized as the beauty of country but in Karachi, you will find trenches one right after one and established an opposite example for others forever. On the other hand, public footpaths are almost ruined. They are seized by the shop keepers illegally. By this, it shaped a big melancholy. Behalf of that, the transportation of Karachi is intimately found to be the ever worst transportation system in whole Pakistan which is witnessed through irregular traffic rules, taking bribes and continuing the bad behaviour with citizens. Contrarily, the police department of Karachi is very rude. Contrast to this, every country has a great pride of its police because they are the protectors and real heroes but in Karachi police are like hooligans and more horrific than thieves. As there is a proverb, “truth is bitter”. Accordingly, the sewage lines in this city are not many which entangle people with so much domestic and social problems. It is a Matter of disgracefulness, going to mosque, school and job is a harsh due to gutters flowing on streets and alleys. Additionally, the toxic gases excreted from the chimneys of mills and companies dreadfully contribute their effects on human lives. If only my area, namely kohi goth consists of minimum four companies, what will be the condition of overall Karachi. Whenever we suffer major diseases, doctors often declare it the cause of poisonous gases dissolved in air. Without doubt, I sometimes ponder that, we, the citizens of Karachi, might all be abnormal because we left no any type of pollutions which as if bequeathed to us. Hundreds and thousands of letters and articles were written on pollutions of Karachi, such as noise, garbage, water, air, food and several other pollutions but all the efforts gone vain. What’s more, public sanitation seems to have no existence in Karachi which is indeed the foremost need to people. The absence of sanitation indicates a ridiculous and underprivileged city. Moving forward, the government hospitals of Karachi are unbearable. They are either out of important vaccinations or the irresponsibility will depress persons. Nowadays, a new trend has emerged. Doctors frighten and persist the fragment women to prefer operation rather normal deliveries. So it is an absolute mass looting. Lastly, the pathetic condition of educational system in Karachi is shameful which is exceedingly destroying students’ careers. Private schools and colleges are much better but that are costly and out of reach for middle and low class families. The government education sectors have neither good infrastructure nor quality education. Every year, funds are allocated but due to burning corruption, they are not spent on education. Majority of schools in Karachi are out of chairs, furniture, shelter, pure drinking water, sanitation, playing ground and most importantly science lab, with no experimental instruments. On the other hand, the rampant cheating culture ranks 1st leaving behind other cities. Every year, the education ministry vows to eradicate cheating culture but as usual is failed to do so. Above all, such dismal state will deliberately lead the nation backwards. Concluding with curious perception, proclaiming Karachi as the heart of Pakistan doesn’t heal the pain of Karachi’s populace. Prove it by facilitating it like Punjab. The writer can be reached at asifmuradumrani321@gmail.com
