Dr Rukhsana Kausar to be appointed LCWU VC

Published on: December 21, 2016 5:35 AM

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday made change to its earlier order and substituted Dr Uzma Qureshi with Dr Rukhsana Kausar to be provisional vice chancellor of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).

The Bench issued fresh order that temporary appointment of Dr Qureshi as the acting VC of the LCWU was not brought to the notice of the court earlier, therefore, in order to maintain consistency, Dr Uzma Qureshi was substituted with Dr Rukhsana Kausar and was provisionally appointed as the LCWU vice chancellor.

The bench observed that the substitution of Dr Qureshi had no bearing on her candidature for the post of the vice chancellor.

Name of Dr Kausar was also proposed by the government’s search committee for the LCWU.

Earlier, the bench, comprising Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Faisal Zaman Khan, on December 19 suspended a single bench’s verdict that struck down the appointments of acting vice chancellors of four public sector universities and the process initiated by the provincial Higher Education Department for the incumbents.

The bench was hearing an inter court appeal filed on behalf of the Punjab government challenging the removal of vice chancellors of four public sector universities, including the Punjab University, Lahore College for Women University, University of Sargodha and the Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology Multan.

The bench would hold further hearing against single bench order on January 12, 2017.

Earlier, a single bench comprising Justice Shahid Karim on December 1 declared the appointments of four VCs – Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran to Punjab University, Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi to Lahore College for Women University, Prof Dr Nazra Sultana to University of Sargodha and Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid to the Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology Multan illegal.
